Walk-and-talk Therapy

Walk and talk therapy is what it says on the tin. Instead of sitting in front of your counsellor in a therapy room, or via a screen the counselling session takes place outdoors, walking next to each other. It is counselling on the go, however, the locations can allow for sessions to be seated, as there are many benches on the route. If you have felt stuck in therapy in the past, being physically active helps release tension and encourages new thoughts.

During a walk-and-talk therapy session, you lead the pace just like in a traditional counselling session. Walking side by side can be much less intimidating and aids openness. If you're apprehensive about being with a therapist looking directly at you, then walk-and-talk therapy could be more suited to you.

Sessions last for 50 minutes and will be arranged and agreed ahead of time. The locations are in Shrewsbury and all of the walks are not strenuous.

Some benefits include: • Some find it easier to talk when outside, rather than face to face in a therapy room • Combining gentle exercise with counselling • The Outside elements encouraging you to focus on present feelings and emotions

Online

Online counselling is a way for you to engage in counselling using internet technology such as Zoom, email, online chat or webcam video link. I currently offer phone and video sessions online using the zoom platform.

You choose, the place (where you will be situated) and decide the pace of your counselling to suit your needs. We agree a time in advance. Your session is 50 minutes.

Online counselling (via zoom) Zoom is a way for you to see your counsellor face to face from your computer whilst engaging in therapy. Should you choose Zoom counselling I will send you a link for our session at a time that we have previously arranged and you follow the link.

Being able to see your counsellor gives you more of the benefits you get from face to face counselling but with the convenience and comfort of working from a familiar place to you. If you wish you can choose to only work with audio through Zoom and no video camera would then be needed.

Some benefits include: • Secure encryption software offering confidentiality • The opportunity for anonymous counselling • No chance that you may be seen entering the counsellors practice

In Room

This is therapy that takes place face to face in a room with a closed door. This is the more traditional therapy setting and poses many benefits. I currently practice from Shrewsbury town centre, easily accessible by foot, public transport or car.

We arrange a day and time and I meet you in the waiting room. We then walk to our room together, where a nice hot drink will be offered.

Some benefits include: • Sessions taking place in a warm room, inside from the elements with a hot drink if chosen. • Some clients feel the walls contain their thoughts and emotions and can be left in the room when the session has ended. • The opportunity to take in each others body language as another method of connection.

“Lucy was great, she had the perfect balance of listening and challenging me to help me work through my whirlwind of emotions, this helped me understand why I was reacting the way I was. “I saw Lucy on a weekly basis for a few months, gradually distancing and she ensured I was in a good place again before we finished our final session. At this point I felt calmer confident that I cold start focusing on my future again” Grace

“Lucy is so thoughtful, and really made me feel like an individual, always remembering things that I had told her and reminding me what was important to me. She also has a great sense of humour which is great at times where I really just needed to laugh at myself ad the world around me.” Daniel

“I was feeling so low when I contacted Lucy. There was so much happening in my life that I was literally full up. It was really hard to take that first step, but Lucy put me at ease straight away. After thinking I wouldn't have much to say, the first session flew by.” Kara
